Budapest Unveils Main Venues for 2027 World Aquatics Championships
Budapest, December 16 (Xinhua) -- The 2027 World Aquatics Championships, set to take place from June 26 to July 18, 2027, will be hosted by the MVM Dome and Duna Arena, the organizing committee announced on Tuesday. This marks Budapest's third World Aquatics Championships in nine years, following successful events in 2017 and 2022, and the city's second World Aquatics Swimming Championships (25m) in 2024.
The MVM Dome, the region's largest multifunctional arena, will be the epicentre of swimming and water polo action, featuring a competition pool inside and a training pool nearby. The Duna Arena will be the diving and artistic swimming hub, while venues for open water swimming and high diving will be announced later.
World Aquatics President Husain Al Musallam expressed his enthusiasm, stating, 'At World Aquatics, we believe that water is for everyone, and through it, we want to bring unforgettable experiences to everyone, whether you are a fan cheering from the stands or an athlete competing at the highest level.'
Brent Nowicki, Executive Director, praised Budapest's hosting prowess and its growing global training hub status, saying, 'We are thrilled with the progress towards the World Aquatics Championships and are looking forward to seeing the world's best athletes compete in such a great setting.'
Adam Schmidt, Government Commissioner and organizing committee co-chair, highlighted the championships' significance as a key qualification event for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The MVM Dome, with its capacity of around 10,000 spectators, will be a central part of the event.
This announcement is a testament to Budapest's commitment to hosting world-class aquatic events and its dedication to providing memorable experiences for fans and athletes alike.
