"Fabio Quartararo is a rider who keeps pushing even when there's someone behind him," Espargaro explained. "That's why he's one of the best riders; he has the confidence to keep going. I tried to follow his lead and push as much as I could. It was challenging to make a good lap time today, but we managed to qualify directly for Q2."
However, not all riders had such a smooth start. Espargaro's teammate, Enea Bastianini, struggled with a slow start, finishing 19th. Bastianini attributed his performance to a less-than-ideal strategy and the need for adjustments, particularly with the new swing arm.
"Our strategy wasn't great today," Bastianini said. "I only had one lap with the new tires, so we need to improve for tomorrow. We tried the new swing arm in both sessions, and we've made some progress, but we need to fine-tune a few things. After reviewing the data, we're losing time in some strange parts of the track, where I usually perform well."
